Interestingly, COBOL is not as obsolete as one might think. Despite being over 60 years old, COBOL remains critical in many industries, especially in banking, government, and insurance sectors, where legacy systems built in COBOL are still running. I was surprised to discover that platforms like Udemy still offer COBOL courses, signalling a continued interest in maintaining and modernizing these systems. It is estimated 220 billion lines of COBOL code are still in production.
